RMI's 7th Annual Health Mailer Symposium

The weather was horrible, but for those who attended RMI's 7th Annual Health Mailer Symposium (5.16.08) it was an awesome day. The informal, mailers-only gathering created an excellent forum to exchange ideas and discuss trends which affect each other's businesses.

The symposium is the brainchild of Laura Smith who had the idea to gather publishers of health newsletters together where they could "let their hair down" and pick each others brains. Unlike traditional conferences where the agenda is preset, here the attendees send their anonymous discussion topics to RMI (who acts solely as a facilitator) prior to the event. This way attendees are assured that the content of the day will be pertinent and beneficial.

As a result of the success of this event, RMI has held two symposiums for nonprofit mailers which take place annually in Washington, DC - around the time of the DMA Nonprofit Federation's conference in January.

Self Healing does a self reflection

Dr. Andrew Weil's Self Healing newsletter is launching a redesign on December 17th with its January issue. The new design includes an easy-to-read format, new color theme with each month, a new "Dr. Weil Explains" column, and more coverage on the readers' topics of choice: healthy aging, eating well, preventing disease, staying healthy, herbs and supplements, mind-body wellness, women's health, and alternative therapies.

You can check out the new issue here. Nicely done.

Foot notes from Nutrition Action

A few weeks back I wrote about the "Second Expert Report on Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective" published by The American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund. This month's issue of the Nutrition Action Healthletter (published by Center for Science in the Public Interest) gives a very in depth review of what those findings are and what they mean. In addition they have an interview with Walter Willett head of the department of nutrition at Harvard School of Health in Boston. This article really boils down the information into a very understandable format. Excellent information.
