about.me makes it easy to manage social media

Social media networks have become a major part of both our professional and personal lives, but sometimes it can be a little overwhelming managing all of them at once or figuring out which are the most effective for delivering a particular message.
According to a recent article in TG Daily, AOL just purchased a personal profile aggregator called "
about.me" to solve this problem.
about.me lets users to create one single personal profile page which maintains ALL of their online identities including Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, email and blogs.
In addition to making social media navigation and management easier for consumers, about.me has even greater significance in the marketing and advertising world. It provides analytics so users can track how many people view their pages and which social networks they prefer to view from, allowing marketers to acquire deeper insight into how to best use social media to reach their target audiences.

Two direct marketing students awarded Laura L. Smith scholarship from HVDMA
We are excited and honored to hear about the two marketing students who have won this year's Laura L. Smith Scholarship Award, presented annually in honor of this unforgettable former RMI employee.
Laura was a long time member of the RMI family who passed away in 2008. She was Vice President of List Management and a partner of the company. In the Winter of '08, the Hudson Valley Direct Marketing Association named a scholarship at PACE University in her name. Laura was passionate about the HVDMA and volunteered much of her time to support the organization and advocate for education.
This month, the Hudson Valley Direct Marketing Association awarded the
Laura L. Smith Scholarship to two students from PACE University's Lubin School of Business, for exceptional professionalism and leadership in direct marketing.
The award is presented to degree candidates in the Direct and Interactive Marketing Program at Pace University's Lubin School of Business who are self-paying for their education (not reimbursed by an employer). Other criteria includes academic excellence, enthusiasm, professional qualities, and potential to benefit the industry.
The award was presented to Dan Klein ’11 of the PACE Pleasantville Campus and Sonny Patel '11 of the PACE New York City campus, both of whom manage the
Interactive and Direct Marketing (IDM) Lab at their respective campuses.

RMI celebrates 25 years at holiday party
Last Thursday, December 2nd, RMI kicked off the holiday season with a lunch party for employees at Café on the Green. In a warm and festive setting overlooking the rolling green hills of the Richter Park golf course, RMI employees enjoyed a lovely afternoon of delicious food, fun, cheer, and laughter.

The party also served as a salute to RMI’s 25th anniversary. Company President Tally Maffucci recognized impressive employee milestones including Debbie McLain and Dan Arnold, who have been dedicated to RMI for 25 years. Also recognized were Lisa Davis (for 10 years), Mary Dechiaro (for 5 years), Olga Pozdynakov (for 5 years), and Becky Terhaar (for 5 years).

Of course it wouldn’t be a real RMI party without games! Employees were divided into teams based on their department, and participated in a series of minute-to-win-it games (not for the easily embarrassed!). Congratulations to Management for winning first place!

The celebration was just the beginning to RMI’s festivities, as we start decorating our office and begin the search for the perfect gifts to give our secret santas at the end of the month!
From all of us at RMI, may you have a happy and healthy holiday!

JUMO – a social network for charities & nonprofits
It was recently announced that starting December 1st one of the Facebook founders, Chris Hughes will be starting a new venture called Jumo, designed to connect people with nonprofit and charitable organizations.
Mr. Hughes says that the primary function of the site will be to deepen the ties between its users and their favorite causes. Individual charities, project based causes and broad issues like gay rights will all have dedicated pages on Jumo.
The idea is to index charities, similar to what yelp.com did for restaurants, in order to make it easier for people to find non-profits online and evaluate their missions and projects.
While other non-profit focused social media networks already exist, like the Facebook Application, Causes, and Global Giving, these place most of their emphasis on online giving. The goal of Jumo is to go beyond just soliciting donations, and provide more opportunities for advocacy, education, and support when it comes to issues and charities that people are most passionate about.
This is just one more example of how online social networking is quickly becoming a unique and exciting tool for non-profits to cultivate donors, volunteers and supporters.

Texts for trees! Arbor Day Foundation uses texting & social media for a good cause

Last night while watching NBC's coverage of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on TV, I was excited to see this cool promotion for
Arbor Day Foundation, prompting me to "Text TREE to 46833" and plant a tree via a text!
So far, over 157,000 trees have been planted for the
Texts for Trees Campaign - an effort by
Green is Universal and Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees this holiday season – and the number keeps growing!
I also saw references to the multi-channel campaign on Twitter, which I tweeted about myself and shared on my Facebook page. See my tweet and the Green is Universal Tweet below...
I just planted a tree with @ GreenIsUni and @arborday (Green is Universal and Arbor Day Foundation on Twitter). You can too - super easy and free!
Kick off a month of Text for Trees! Click, like, share, tweet and email to plant a tree with Green is Universal in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. http://ow.ly/3hyo9 or text "TREE" to 46833.Click here to plant a tree and learn more about Arbor Day Foundation's Texts for Trees Campaign.
